Visakhapatnam: The pre-monsoon showers doubled with heavy rains resulted from an upper air trough, hovering from Vidarbha to south Tamil Nadu across Rayalaseema, continued to lash Vizag over the last 24 hours, throwing the normal life out of gear.

The heavy rain and thunder storms inundated many low-lying areas in the city. The waterlogged roads and colo-nies caused great inconvenience to the commuters. The metrological department officials forecast that the rains will continue for another 24 hours before the southwest monsoon hits AP. By the morning on Monday, Vizag recorded a rainfall of 61.8 mm. The sudden downpour battered Vizag city from Sunday evening and caused water-logging across the city.

Though the plunging temperatures gave a respite to the Vizagites, some parts of the city suffered from a series of power cuts. The drainage spilling on to the roads and wate-rlogged colonies once again showed the vulnerability of the infrastructure of Vizag.
