THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The routine council session meet on Monday turned stormy as UDF councillors barged into the well demanding a discussion on the corruption allegation against the corporation officials.

When the Mayor refused, UDF councillor Maheswaran Nair destroyed the Mayor’s mike.

The UDF councillors disrupted the proceedings as soon as the session started demanding a discussion on the  allegations raised by Mr V. Sivankutty MLA against the corporation officials.

They rushed into the well and tried to stall the discussion following which the LDF councillors also joined the fray pushing and shoving the rivals.  Some of the UDF councillors also jumped onto the Mayor’s dais.

Mayor K. Chandrika severely criticised the Opposition for ruining the council session and alleged that it was a pre-planned act.

“We called  the council meeting to discuss various issues and I was ready to hold a discussion on the corruption allegations at the end of the session. But they over-reacted. MLA Sivankutty is  raising baseless issues. Our employees are hard working and only because of their relentless efforts,  the civic body is surviving even at the harshest time,” said the Mayor.   The civic body had received many accolades and was chosen for nine awards in the past years, she said.
