Bengaluru: Bengaluru students have outdone themselves in the COMEDK UGET 2015, with girls racing past the boys as usual. First rank holders in both engineering and medical streams are girls from Bengaluru – Priya Narwal (medical) and Kommuru Alekhya Reddy (engineering).

“I’m thrilled and so is my family,” said Priya Narwal, who scored 173 out of 180 in the PCB stream. Narwal, who wants to be a neurosurgeon, says AIIMS Delhi is her first choice. “I have prepared for two years, going to school, then for coaching and putting in about four hours on a weekday,” said Narwal. “On weekends, I studied up to 17 hours a day.” Kommuru Reddy, the engeering topper, who has a score of 167 out of 180.

750 MBBS seats and 750 BDS seats are available in 14 medical and 24 dental colleges across Karnataka. Around 27,395 candidates are now eligible for the seat selection process. Around 27 per cent of these students are from Karnataka. PCB results were exceptionally good, with about 1800 candidates securing over 80 per cent. 14 students in the top 100 are from the state. About 50 per cent of the 43,981 candidates who took the engineering entrance test are also from Karnataka.

Seven out of the top 10 rank holders hail from the state. About 9,600 out of 21,300 Karnataka candidates, who are eligible for the seat selection process, come from Bengaluru Urban. However, only 45 candidates have secured more than 80 per cent.

The first round of counselling will begin on June 29, along with a separate procedure to process documents. Details will be made available in the next 10 days and candidates have been asked to refer to the website for all the updates and to familiarise themselves with the seat selection process.
