Hurriyat activist shot dead in Sopore

Srinagar: A senior activist of Syed Ali Shah Geelani-led Hurriyat Conference faction was gunned down by unidentified men in Jammu and Kashmir’s volatile Sopore town on Tuesday.
Police said that unidentified gunmen shot from close range Sheikh Altaf-ur-Rehman near a bus stop in Sopore’s New Colony, about 48-km from here. He was rushed to a nearby hospital where doctors declared him brought dead. 43-year-old Mr. Sheikh, a pharmacist in J&K’s health department, was also associated with Mr. Geelani’s Tehrikh-e-Hurriyat.
