KOCHI: Even as the work on the Kochi Metro Rail and the Edappally flyover is progressing, the Kerala Sasthra Sahitya Parishad   has demanded the construction of  a clover leaf ramp formation at Edappally junction to make traffic smooth. One of the ramps is possible  in the direction in which vehicles come from Vyttila and proceed to Varapuzha route. “If such a ramp comes after the Edappally junction, vehicles coming from Vyttila and proceeding to Aluva can take the ramp in the Varapuzha direction area and enter the flyover to proceed to Aluva, said Mr Gopinathan”.

“An intersection of vehicles can be avoided in this manner. The other ramp should start from the flyover ahead of the junction in the Kochi city direction. Vehicles coming from the Aluva direction and proceeding to the Varapuzha direction can enter the flyover and then turn left through the ramp to proceed to Varapuzha without any hassle,” said Mr Gopinathan.

“In the other two directions, land must be acquired to construct the clover leaf ramps but in the above said two directions that is not needed. The other two areas remaining are near Lulu Mall and the building where Eammnuval silks was housed. Such clover leaf ramp formation needs to be implemented to make traffic smooth and without signals. We approached the DMRC authorities with the suggestion and they directed us to the KMRL authorities and we are yet to get a positive response,” he said. He also said that the current proposal to land the flyover before the Edappally Church too was unscientific. “That junction too is crowded and a number  of pedestrians cross there. So the flyover has to land after the junction,” Gopinathan said adding the same too has been brought to the notice of the authorities.
