PML-N wins elections in Gilgit
Former Gilgit-Baltistan CM Mehdi Shah could not even retain his own seat
Islamabad: Ruling Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz) won the elections in the semi-autonomous Gilgit-Baltistan region by grabbing 12 seats out of the 24. According to the unofficial results, three independents have also won seats while Majlis Wahdatul Muslemeen (MWM) secured two seats and Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf (PTI) and Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) bagged one seat each.
The PML-N will now form the government in the province-like unit. Previously, the PPP ruled the Gilgit-Baltistan but this time it failed to make any impact.
Former Gilgit-Baltistan Chief Minister Mehdi Shah could not even retain his own seat. The only seat claimed by the PPP was GBLA-12, Skardu-6 where Imran Nadeem won. The PML-N also defeated the PTI and the PPP in a by-election held in Mandi Bahauddin on Monday.
