I don’t jump out of a trunk naked in 'Duff': 'Hangover' star Ken Jeong
Fans will get to see him don a new teaching hat
The much loved and exceptionally funny Hangover star Ken Jeong is all set to hit the silver screen all over India yet again. The comedy star will be seen essaying the role of a High school teacher in the upcoming high school comedy ‘The DUFF’. The star has already played a teacher in the hit television series ‘Community’. While the fans were saddened by the news of cancelation of the TV series, they will get to see him don a new teaching hat.
Jeong, who previously starred in “The Hangover” series, recently worked with Michael Bay on both “Transformers: Dark of the Moon” and “Pain & Gain.” He also voiced characters in “Despicable” and “Turbo,”. Ken’s character in The DUFF is Mr. Arthur is Malloy High School’s journalism teacher, and mentor/surrogate father to Bianca (Mae Whitman as the lead) whose real father is absent following a divorce from her mother Dottie.
The hangover star said, “I don’t jump out of a trunk naked in this one,” quips Jeong who, in addition to being an actor and comic, is also a doctor in real life. “My character sees the potential in Bianca. He challenges her, pushes her and even scolds her. He is a good coach and mentor who knows that she can handle the challenges so he challenges her even more.”
The director, Ari Sandel has been a fan of Ken for the longest time. His interest in Ken for the lead role actually happened even before he shot to fame with the Hangover series that won him an MTV movie award. Sandel used to go and watch Ken perform at the comedy store as a kid.
Ever since Ari was brought on to direct the project, Ken was very high on his priority list for the role of Mr. Arthur from a very early stage of casting. “Well it had to be Ken. I have been seeing this amazingly talented guy ever since I was a kid. Ken has given some power packed performances in the past that would make you think you will die laughing. Moreover, he has done it across mediums, may it be films, television and on stage if you have had the rare honour of seeing him live. The character of Mr. Arthur is different from anything he has done in the past. The character is not over the top and funny like a few of his earlier roles. You will see a more subtle humour coming from Ken and you would be pleasantly surprised how great he is at it.”
The DUFF will hit theatres across India on 12th June, 2015.
