Hyderabad: The court of the first metropolitan session judge at Nampally convicted a man for raping his two-year-old daughter and sentenced him to life imprisonment on Wednesday. The victim died after the incident. The convict, Mallik-arjun, 30, who is physically handicapped, was working at a fast food joint. The verdict comes a year after the crime.
The in-charge judge, Ms T. Rajani, found Mallikarjun guilty of rape. He was sentenced to rigorous imprisonment for life and a fine of Rs 5,000. The incident occurred on June 19, 2014, when the victim’s mother who is a maid went to work. The girl started bleeding. The convict who got scared washed her inner garments and his clothes too.
Neighbours saw the girl weeping outside her house. The girl’s mother asked her what happened. Though she pointed towards her father she couldn’t tell anything. The mother, however, questioned him but he claimed to be innocent. A complaint was lodged three days later and Mallikarjun was picked up. He confessed to the crime later.
The victim was shifted to Niloufer Hospital. Doctors confirmed rape. While discharging the kid doctors advised the mother to give her rest and not allow her to walk for two months. The victim died later due to injuries and walking.
“A charge sheet was filed and during the trial many witnesses including the victim’s mother, landlord and doctors, were examined. The court opined that the culprit doesn’t deserve any lenience but gave only minimum punishment as he is handicapped,” said public prosecutor K. Pratap Reddy.
