25 food safety officers teams on field, chasing out Maggi
Shopekeepers asked to return Maggi products to distributors
Chennai: Officials of the department of food safety and drug administration are on a massive drive across the city giving instructions to shop-keepers not to display Maggi packets at the sales point. The shop-owners are being advised to return the products to their distributors, say the officials. An official from the department says, “As many as 25 teams of food safety officers are on rounds of retail outlets, department stores and shops in malls in the city since June 5.”
The ban was announced on June 4 and the drive began on June 5, they say, and add that the distributors were called immediately after the ban and asked take back Maggi packets; the official said they had agreed to.In some places, the distributors themselves bring a van and take back the goods, while in some others, a few shop-keepers come together and book a van to send back the packets to their distributor.
Almost all shops that sell Maggi have been covered and the field work will be completed in the next few days, the officials add.
