CCTV cameras to keep an eye on BBMP officials
The Commissioner discussed various measures on how to ensure punctuality among staff
Bengaluru: In order to bring instill discipline among officials, BBMP Commissioner G. Kumar Naik has instructed the Additional Commissioner (Admin) to install CCTV cameras in the corridors of BBMP head office. The Commissioner, who held an intra-department meeting on Tuesday, discussed various measures on how to ensure punctuality among BBMP staff.
He advised the department heads to make use of the bio-metric system to ensure that employees came to work on time. “Also, ensure that they wear uniforms and ID cards,” he said.
He directed the chiefs to take stringent action against officials if they came late, and added that if they (chiefs) were on time, others too would follow them. Meanwhile, the Commissioner said that there were complaints of people smoking in the BBMP corridors and toilets.
“Let the anti-tobacco squad inquire the matter and based on their report, health inspectors should take action against those violating the rules,” Naik said.
16,500 streetlights not working
BBMP administrator T. M. Vijay Bhaskar carried out an inspection to check illumination and functioning of streetlights across all eight zones in the city. He found that 16,498 street lamps were not functioning and levied a penalty of Rs. 49.52 lakh on contractors.
The city has 4.53 lakh street lamps. Mr. Bhaskar had formed 264 teams to carry out the checks.
