KOZHIKODEPeeli Pampally, 8,  has  performed an extraordinary  feat—she has produced a six-minute film that was recognised by the Kerala State Chalachitra Academy as the best children’s film for the Environmental Film Festival of Kerala 2015. When  kids were busy attending summer vacation classes, this fourth standard student of St Joseph’s Anglo-Indian Girls’ Higher Secondary School here was  learning  the basics of video camera.

The  short film titled  ‘Peeli’s Birthdays’ features the specialities of her seven birthdays and this was the  surprise that she had stocked on her eighth birthday for her relatives and friends who gathered at her home.  “The film’s theme was something that I had seen and experienced from  my  childhood,”  said Peeli.

“I have seen my father planting saplings of arecanut, coconut, jackfruit and banana  during my birthdays and  I have shown it to my audience through my film,” she added.

“I gifted my relatives saplings to be  planted  in their gardens,” she  said.  “My father was an inspiration for me to create this movie and I will pass on the message of protecting the environment and nature to all my friends,” she pointed out. The film produced under the banner of Pampally production is  directed and scripted by Peeli and she also donned the role of cinematographer.
