Hyderabad: The Telangana prohibition and excise department has prepared the blueprint to manufacture T-brand liquor at affordable prices. It is likely to be priced between Rs 30 and Rs 35 per 180 ml bottle.
Once approved by CM K. Chandrasekhar Rao along with new excise policy coming into effect from July 1, manufacturing process will begin in some of the existing state distilleries. The department has shortlisted a couple of brand names, all having the Telangana tag, and will come with a tagline. The liquor is to be made from purified rectified spirit. Distilleries will be given permission to manufacture and it will be monitored by the department.
The affordable liquor is intended to end the rampant sale of illicitly distilled liquor and other cheap varieties which cause the government loss of revenue and are also dangerous to health. “The illicit liquor trade is worth Rs 500 crore. This initiative will check the sale of ID liquor,” a senior official said.
