Six persons arrested for robbing French expat
The accused decamped his smart phone and wallet containing all documents
Chennai: Six persons have been arrested for waylaying a French expat, aged 26, at Tiruvanmiyur beach here on Thursday night and decamping with his smart phone and wallet containing all documents. The victim was taking a stroll when the crime took place. On Friday, the police arrested Kathirvel, 24, Karthik, 25, Siva, 23, Mani, 27, Reddy alias Kumaresh, 25, and Kathiresan, 23, of Besant Nagar Kuppam. “All valuables were recovered intact,” a police officer said.
The victim, Arnaud Auger, was in Chennai working on an offshore project at a multinational company in Ascendas (International Tech Park) at Taramani, and was residing at Tiger Varadachari street in Besant Nagar, the police said. On Thursday, around 11.30 pm, Auger was taking a stroll on the Tiruvanmiyur beach when the youths accosted him.
“Initially, they ragged him and when he tried to run towards the beach road, they stopped him and demanded that he part with his valuables,” said a police officer. The six snatched his smart phone and wallet before fleeing. The victim filed a complaint with the Tiruvanmiyur police station.
