1,760 kg of plastics seized in Salem

Officials imposed fine Rs 9000 on the traders and 1760 kgs of plastics were seized

Salem: About 1760 kilos of plastic materials were seized from 16 shops in Salem City in a drive against plastics by the Salem Corporation on Saturday. The use of plastics weighing less than 40 microns is prohibited across India. Despite the ban, such plastic cups, bags and containers are being sold by shops in Salem.

On Saturday morning, the Corporation Health Officer, Dr R. Selvakumar and his team raided the shops  which were selling banned plastics. A fine of Rs9000 was imposed on the traders and a total of 1760 kgs of plastics were seized. The shop keepers were warned of severe action if they continued to sell plastic materials weighing less than 40 microns.
