Mehta registered a fluent 8-1 win over Varun Madan in the final
Mumbai: Aditya Mehta showed why he is the best snooker player in the country with a fluent 8-1 win over Varun Madan in the final of the maiden RKG Open snooker series here at the NSCI. After thrashing young Laxman Rawat 5-0 in the the semi-finals, Mehta, the winner of the Chennai leg continued his dominant run even in the final to leave Delhi lad Madan with no chance.
Mehta, India’s only professional snooker player started the best-of-15-frame finals with a bang, winning four in a row including a break of 116 in the second. While Madan managed to win the fifth frame, Mehta responded with breaks of 84, 88 and 81 in the sixth, seventh and eighth frame respectively, to seal the title and the prize purse of Rs 2.5 lakh.
Madan, who beat Punjab’s Dharminder Lilly 6-2 in the semifinal late evening on Friday, took home the runners-up cheque of Rs1.3 lakh. Losing semifinalists Lily and Laxman Rawat got Rs 50,000.
