Pudukkottai: Four fishermen were rescued in time by their colleagues when the former's boat apparently suffered a dent and began to sink, some 12 nautical miles away from Jagathapatnam sea shore in Pudukkottai district in the wee hours of Sunday.

Official sources said, a group of fishermen of Jagathapatnam ventured into the sea early on Saturday. Of them, four fishermen, Palanivel (boat Owner) Santhanam, Vijayamani and Parimalam, who were engaged in fishing in the mid-sea, found that their boat had suddenly developed a hole and began to sink.

On seeing this, their colleagues in that area rushed to the spot, rescued all the four distressed fishermen and ferried them to shore. Based on their complaint, the fisheries department officials are holding discussions about the chances for retrieving the sunken boat, which cost about '13 lakh, sources added.
