No increase of seats at IIT Hyderabad
JoSAA releases seat matrix for IITs, NITs, IIITs
Hyderabad: The Indian Institute of Technology, Hyderabad, will not have an increase in intake for 2015-16.
But with 220 seats in this year’s counselling, IIT, Hyderabad, will still have the highest number of seats among the IITs set up in the last decade. However, general category seats will go down to 108.
The newest IIT, at Tirupati, and the Indian Institute of Information Technology Kurnool, will also be functional from this year. IIT Tirupati will offer 120 seats in four branches: 30 each in computer science, electrical, civil and mechanical engineering.
About 33,365 seats will be pooled for counselling across different IITs, NITs, IIITs and other institutions. A little more than 10,000 seats in 21 IITs will be available for students to choose from in the Joint Seat Allocation Authority counselling to be held in the last week of this month.
NITs will offer more, 17,390 seats, while IIITs will have 2228 seats. Seats in other institutions, like the School of Planning and Architecture in Vijayawada (105 seats), will also be available.
JoSAA has released the seat matrix for the premier institutions for counselling later this month. As per the schedule, JEE Advanced and JEE Main rank lists will be released on June 18 and June 24 respectively.
Web counselling will begin from June 25. The business rules say that while the seats reserved for Backward Classes can be de-reserved if they are not filled, those for students belonging to Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes can’t be de-reserved.
