Chennai: Setting its eyes on the 2016 Assembly polls, the BJP state executive has decided to meet in Kumbakonam on June 16 and 17 to work out a strategy to “enter the state Assembly with good numbers”.The saffron party, which has boycotted the Dr Radhakrishnan Nagar Assembly byelection, hopes to take its allies along with it in facing the 2016 polls.

“We will chalk out our strategy to face the elections in 2016. The two-day meet will discuss various issues, including the current political developments and work out an action plan to ensure that the party emerges as a major force,” said Dr Tamilisai Soundararajan, BJP state president.

Playing down her party’s boycott of the bypoll, she said the BJP decided to abstain from the byelection as it “wanted to concentrate more on the Assembly election”. The BJP government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has ensured infrastructure projects across the country and, as a result, the nation has witnessed economic development.

The GDP, which was 2.1 per cent last year, has increased to 4.5. “So, in order to ensure that Tamil Nadu also benefits out of the good schemes of the Modi government, the people should elect the BJP to power,” she added. The party has decided to organise a ‘meet the people programme’ to enrol more members as part of the nation-wide programme of the party scheduled to commence this August.

About 40 lakh new members who have been recently enrolled into the party underwent a training programme. Reiterating that her party was prepared to face the Assembly elections “any time” the senior leader said the saffron party was already in poll mode, working out strategies to face the elections.
