Hyderabad: The 81 teams formed by the GHMC to tackle monsoon related emergencies haven’t had any effect as was evident during the last few days’ rains.

Sources from the GHMC emergency team stated that they had not yet received sanctions for Monsoon and that there was a shortage of equipment.

“Till now, we haven’t got any sanctions to take up routine Monsoon-related works,” a source from the Central Emergency Team of GHMC said.

As part of routine work, tree pruning is usually finished before the arrival of the Monsoon. Tenders have been called, but they aren’t expected to be finalised before a week, leaving the team helpless in the event of any emergency.

In the past three days, most complaints received by the emergency squad launched by GHMC, were related to water logging issues, the team members said.

Apart from that, citizens are calling up the squad for tree-felling, tree pruning and to clean up oil spilled on the roads.

Apart from one central squad per circle in the GHMC limits, each circle will have two vehicles stationed for resolving issues during rains.

Once the tenders are finalised, the situation will be easier to handle, the official said.
