Mumbai: Despite maintaining that she helped the scam-tainted former IPL commissioner Lalit Modi only in 'humanitarian' consideration, the opposition has not relented to its demand that the External Affairs Minister resign. But did the Union Minister Sushma Swaraj really go out of her way and gave preferential treatment to Modi?
Just a skim through her Twitter page will reveal that there have been other instances in the past where the Minister has taken a ‘humanitarian’ view towards countrymen who have sought help.
When an Indian was stuck in Saudi as his employer did not return him the poassport
In the most recent episode from her handle, where she had tweeted about evacuating Indians from conflict ridden Narjan in Saudi Arabia, she was approached by someone who’s employer denied to return his passport.

When an elderly couplel sot their passport in transit
This woman tweeted to Sushma Swaraj asking for help, as her elderly parents were stranded in Turkey, and the Indian Embassy was not responsive enough.

When a woman was under house arrest in Johannesburg
Gopal Keshri tweeted saying that his sister was under house arrest in South Africa. The response was prompt and the person in question was put in a plane to Kochi soon.

This woman’s mother was in Bali, and had to have surgery, but the hospital authorities failed to accept insurance guarantee from India.

When Agratha lost her money and passport in Germany
A woman in Berlin lost her money and passport. On contacting the Union Minister she was put in touch with the Indian embassy in Berlin.
