The Indian Coast Guard seized 625 kg of ganja kept in gunny bags

ChennaiThe Indian Coast Guard seized 625 kg of ganja kept in gunny bags on one of the sand dunes near Dhanushkodi near Rameswaram on Monday night during independent operation based on an alert. 
 
The estimated value of the seized contraband is estimated to be around '65 lakh and it is the biggest seizure from Palk strait area located between India and Sri Lanka. The CG operation was carried out using its hovercraft. The security agencies believe that the ganja was meant for smuggling to Sri Lanka. 
 
A CG press release said that though they had seized the ganja, they could not locate any boat or persons linked to the contraband. “However a detailed investigation is being undertaken with the assistance of customs, police and NCB,” the press release added.
