Chennai boy tops IIT-JEE aspirant from Madras zone

There are 10,006 seats available in 18 IITs across the country

Chennai: S. Raghavan, a student of Sri Sankara Senior Secondary School, Adyar in Chennai has topped aspirants from Tamil Nadu in JEE (advanced) this year. A total of 451 students from Tamil Nadu have qualified to take the IIT admission counselling this year.
 
Of the 1,17,238 who took the test across the country, as many as 26,456 qualified to apply for IIT-counselling. Of those aspirants, 4,928 are from the IIT Madras zone, comprising Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Karnataka, Kerala and Puducherry.
 
Speaking to Deccan Chronicle Prof S. Sundar, chairman, JEE (advanced), IIT-Madras zone said that 2,815 candidates from Tamil Nadu took the test of whom 451 got qualified this year.
 
S.Raghavan, who secured 80th rank in All India level and topped the Tamil Nadu list said that he would take computer science engineering at IIT, Madras. "I felt Paper 1 to be difficult and paper 2 easy. However, with my hard work I was able to score more marks. I will pursue post graduation to do research in computer science," Raghavan, who had earlier also topped JEE (main) from Tamil Nadu, said.
 
IIT-Bombay zone leads the country with 34 students in the top 100 ranks followed by IIT-Madras zone (28). A similar trend could be seen in the top 500 list too - IIT-Bombay (151) and IIT-Madras (127). As many as 23,407 boys of 96,895 who appeared for the test across the country and 3,049 girls among 20,342 cleared JEE (advanced).
 
There are 10,006 seats available in 18 IITs across the country, including four new IITs. This year IITs and NITs will host a joint counselling process for admission to their institutes.
