Cash-for-vote scam: Election Commission clears way for action on Revanth Reddy

Hyderabad: In a setback to the Telugu Desam and its president N. Chandrababu Naidu in the cash-for-vote case, the Election Commission of India has asked the Telangana government to probe bribery allegations in the MLC elections “vigorously and take it to its logical end”.

At a time when the TD has been claiming that the cash-for-vote case should be treated as an electoral offence and not a Prevention of Corruption Act offence, the EC’s letter to the TS government has gained significance.
The EC had sent the communication to the Chief Electoral Officer of TS and AP. Additional Chief Electoral Officer of AP and TS Anoop Singh said, “ECI has sent a letter to the TS government through us. We have communicated to the government about the same. The letter was sent on Tuesday."

He added that he was not aware of the reports submitted by the ACB to the EC. TS ACB director general A.K. Khan said, “The Election Commission of India has desired that the government of Telangana pursue the case of allegation of bribery against Mr A. Revanth Reddy and others made by Mr Elvis Stephenson vigorously and take it to its logical end."
