Vasundhara Raje offers explanation, Amit Shah denies audience
Ms Swaraj had met Lalit Modi in London last year at a small private dinner - Reports
New Delhi: Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje told BJP president Amit Shah that while she did share family ties with the former IPL boss Lalit Modi, there was no wrongdoing on her part.
However, her request for a meeting was apparently rejected by the BJP president for now. Ms Raje has maintained she has no knowledge of the documents purportedly showing her backing the former IPL chief’s immigration plea in Britain, being broadcast by TV channels.
To add to the BJP’s troubles, some reports claimed that external affairs minister Sushma Swaraj had met the ex-IPL commissioner in London last year at a small private dinner hosted by a businessman.
Ms Swaraj and Mr Lalit Modi were part of a group of 15 people who attended the dinner hosted in October last year by hotelier Joginder Sanger, owner of Kensington Hotel, where the minister had stayed during an official trip for the Pravasi Bharatiya Diwas, a television channel claimed.
On the other hand it was alleged that in 2010, Ms Raje, then Leader of the Opposition in the Rajasthan Assembly, was a guest at a party hosted by the controversial IPL chief in Mumbai.
