HyderabadTaking up the issue of the phone tapping at the official level, the AP government on Thursday formally complained to the Centre against the “unethical, unconstitutional and illegal act of the TS government of tapping the phone of the CM.”

Union minister Sujana Chowdary along with chief secretary I.Y.R. Krishna Rao met Union home minister Rajnath Singh briefly and lodged the complaint. They reportedly showed him evidence that they have on tapping, top sources said.

The phones of 120 other people including ministers, MLAs and MPs were also tapped by Telangana intelligence agencies. They used ultra modern equipment for the operation and a probe is needed over the gadgets used as well,” Mr Chowdary reportedly told Mr Singh.

A report on the whole episode — which contains details that the AP government acquired from various sources including telecom service providers — was given to the Centre, it is said.

Bishop Harry’s phone tapped without FIR: AP

AP police has found that the phone of Bishop Harry Sebastian, one of the accused in the cash-for-vote scam, was tapped by the Telangana state ACB without issuing an FIR. “Usually, the ACB keeps tabs on suspects in any case after the FIR is issued. In this case, conversations were tapped before FIR was issued.”  The phones were tapped after nominated MLA Elvis Stephenson had lodged a complaint.

As regards Accused No. 4 Jerusalem Mattaiah, an AP CID official said, “We haven’t issued notices yet in the case. We have some evidence regarding the tapping allegations and phone calls threatening the complainant.”

However, Telangana state ACB vehemently denied that it had tapped any phone. “There was no tapping and all allegations are false,” an official said.
