Chennai cooler under overcast sky

Chennai: Thursday was not a typical June day, going by the mean maximum temperature records of the weather department. The maximum temperature of 29.9 degree Celsius recorded during the day was considerably less than the long-term average of 36.9 degree Celsius.

The ever-lingering cloud cover over the city and the persistant drizzle contributed to the pleasant weather. The prevailing weather condition can be expected to last for a couple of days more, Meteorological Department officials said.

Significantly, other centres across the state too recorded comparatively lesser maximum temperatures than the average mean on Thursday. Coimbatore recorded a maximum temperature of 33 degree Celsius.
