KOZHIKODE: Four fire service personnel,  wanted in the airport violence case, have taken leave and are absconding.

The Kondotty police have intensified the  search  for the men who were identified from the  CCTV visuals of the violence.

They were missing  when the police  went to arrest them  at the airport on Wednesday and their mobile phones were also switched off.

The CISF officials said nine men wanted in the case would surrender after June 20. Senior police officials had granted them more time to produce the accused as the CISF was finding it difficult to rotate duty due to staff shortage.

The second accused in the attempt to murder case, fire senior superintendent Sunny Thomas,  would be arrested once he is discharged from the hospital. Thomas was seriously injured when the CISF personnel  assaulted him  after a CISF jawan was shot.

Thomas was first admitted to  a private hospital and later shifted to Kozhikode Medical College. Police said the pistol seized from the CISF would be sent to the state forensic lab in Thiruvananthapuram after getting  permission from the court.
