Hyderabad: Accusing “idle” TD leaders of indulging in mudslinging against the TRS government, IT minister K.T. Rama Rao asserted on Thursday that law would take its own course in the cash-for-vote scam.

He was speaking to media in New Delhi, where he is meeting Union ministers. On the AP government’s demand to the Centre to enforce Section 8 of the AP Reorganisation Act empowering the Governor with control of law and order in Hyderabad, he quoted finance minister Arun Jaitley’s statement that it cannot be implemented.

“The world has seen what has happened. There is absolute peace in Hyderabad. People are living in harmony without any law and order problems. A year back, some people raised doubts and rumours and it ha sproved to be slap on their faces,” he said.

He added, “People are mature. I wish the leaders too move forward with maturity. There is a law in this country and it will take its own course. We have a lot of work to do. Twenty-four hours is insufficient. We want to focus on development,” he said.

Mr Rama Rao met Union urban development minister M. Venkaiah Naidu and sought financial support for the two-bedroom housing scheme for the poor and inclusion of Siddipet town in the list of Class 1 cities.

“Siddipet was recommended since it has a population of above 1 lakh, but due to an error it was not included. I requested the minister to include the same. He gave a positive response,” he said.

He asked road transport and highways minister Nitin Gadkari for 2 lakh metric tons of cement annually, totalling 8 lakh tons in four years, on subsidy for construction of 36 lakh toilets, Panchayat and other roads.

“Telangana State suffered injustice with regard to national highways. I requested him to clear proposals submitted by Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao,” he added.

Mr Rama Rao said he had requested Hudco chairman Ravikant to sanction another Rs 5,000 crore for the Water Grid in addition to the Rs 10,000 crore which has already been sanctioned.

Referring to his meeting with Union IT minister Ravi Shankar Prasad, he said the Telangana government was presenting Hyderabad as start-up hub and invited him for the inauguration of the T-hub ceremony.
