Thiruvananthapuram: The state government is yet to reach a consensus with the private medical college managements on seat-sharing and fees  even as the first round allotment process for medical courses  is mid-way.

The talks held earlier could not make much headway  as many medical colleges are yet to receive the approval for admissions, according to sources in the Kerala Private Self-Financing Medical College Managements Association.

Many private medical colleges  are yet to get the nod from the Medical Council of India  for admissions for the present year. The colleges that could not satisfy the parameters for approval in the first inspection were not given a second chance by the MCI.

With the Supreme Court deadline to the MCI for approval of admissions on June 15,  the colleges would have to approach the court, director of Sree Gokulam Medical College,Venjarammoodu, K. K. Manojan, a member of the medical college managements association,  told DC.

Last year also,  approvals were given to many colleges after the intervention of the court. The medical colleges would give an assurance to  improve the infrastructure within a stipulated time, Dr Manojan said. The present decision is  to conduct further talks only after the court decision on the issue.
