HyderabadIndustry body Assocham is calling on the Telangana government to shift its focus from Hyderabad to other districts. Asad Wasi, director, Assocham says that there has been a concentration of economic activities in Hyderabad while other regions are left out thus rising the the migratory population.

“Nine out of the 10 districts in Telangana are mentioned in the backward district list prepared by the Union  government,” said V. Anil Reddy, president, FTAPCCI. Though the list was released in 2011, it   continues to be relevant, as no corrections have been made, said an industry insider seeking anonymity.

Mr Wasi linked this backwardness to the lack of factors of production in these areas with regard to skilled  labour, better connectivity etc. He said that districts in Telangana have huge opportunities for textiles, paper mills and mineral-based  businesses.

“The government needs to attract industries by ensuring presence of all factors of production, which will  in turn help in bolstering economic activities in such areas,” he said.
Assocham is worried over the power deficit situation and fears that it could be a hindrance in widening the scale of industrialisation and  sought harnessing of sunshine to generate renewable energy.

Further, it asked for speedy approvals for setting up National Investment and Manufacturing Zone in Medak district.
