Varun-Shraddha's 'ABCD 2' becomes 2015's highest day 1 opener
The film beat Akshay Kumar's 'Gabbar is Back' record
Mumbai: Remo D’Souza’s sequel to ‘Anybody Can Dance’ opened on Friday. Despite the heavy rains fans lined up outside theatres to catch their favourite stars shake a leg in the dance film. The film has set a new record at the box office. Crashing Akshay Kumar’s ‘Gabbar is Back’, which opened with Rs 12,23,00,000 on its first day, ABCD 2 is now 2015’s highest day 1 opener with a total collection of Rs. 14,15,50,000.
Now, Varun and Shraddha have stormed the charts. Earlier estimates suggest the film has crossed 13 crore, making ‘ABCD 2’ the biggest day 1 opener of 2015.
Despite the monsoosn, the film saw approximately 50 percent occupancy in theatres. It opened to 2300 screens in 3D, 2D and 4DX platforms all over the country.
This new achievement makes Varun the most bankable star today, even multi-star cast movies with bigger stars like Dil Dhadakne Do’, couldn’t make a mark for itself.
This is a personal biggest achievement for Varun yet, and for Shraddha it’s her second best achievement after ‘Ek Villain’, which had a bigger day 1 opening
With this business, even more filmmakers will now try and sign the two together.
