Hyderabad: With numerous programmes planned for the International Yoga Day on Sunday, the whole city will be practising yoga.

Union health minister J.P. Nadda will take part in a BJP-organised yoga event at Sanjeevaiah Park, while techies and others will assemble on the stretch from Biodiversity Park till Mindspace junction on Sunday morning. Several walkers’ associations are also holding yoga events at parks, most notable among them being at the KBR Park.

The state government had earlier asked universities and colleges to hold yoga events on Sunday. A mega yoga programme will thus be held at the Arts College lawns in Osmania University.

“The main event will be at Sanjeevaiah Park. It is not a political event and we are expecting many people to turn up. But apart from that, many NGOs and voluntary organisations are holding events at Nizam College, Exhibition Grounds, Gachibowli stadium etc.” said BJP state president G. Kishan Reddy. However, there is no confirmation if CM K. Chandrasekhar Rao will participate in a yoga programme in the city.

That apart, almost all parks and walkers’ associations are holding yoga events. Even practice sessions are being organised on the eve of International Yoga Day at many places like the People’s Plaza, Jala Vihar etc.

Meanwhile, another controversy hit the Yoga Day celebrations after police denied permission for an event near Charminar. One Mr Pramod, aligned with the BJP, moved the Hyderabad High Court, challenging the action of the assistant commissioner of police, Charminar, in not granting permission to take out a yoga rally from Charminar till Gulzar Houz.

The court granted permission to conduct yoga at City College. One of the organisers will symbolically start yoga at Charminar and then shift to the City College.
