Slim Tabu wows Drishyam crew
The actress was advised to put on weight
Filmmaker Nishikant Kamat and the crew of Drishyam are awestruck by Tabu who plays a mean cop and a mother in the film. Apparently, when the crew saw the film’s rushes, they felt that Tabu looked way too slim and svelte to play the mother of an 18-year-old boy, so the actress was advised to put on weight. But she didn’t oblige.
“Tabu has played a mother to Shahid Kapoor in Haider and will play one to Aditya Roy Kapur in Fitoor — both of who are much older — without changing her look. So she saw no reason to get plump for this role,” says a source. Says Nishikant, “We’ve been looking at her scenes and we’re stumped. Tabu’s understanding of the craft is incredible. Without my briefing she caught on to every sub-text in the script. You see, this is a thriller and yet it doesn’t have the usual ingredients of the genre. She became an associate and creative collaborator on the sets.”
About the appearance he adds, “All I’ll say is, Tabu is every inch the character. We are fortunate to have her on board.”
