KOZHIKODE: Disturbed by the failure of Special Investigation Team of police to bring into fore the political conspiracy behind the Solar Scam, the judicial commission appointed by the state government to inquire into the scam retired High Court justice G Sivarajan is exploring possibilities to depute either one or a team of independent cyber forensics experts to conduct a thorough investigation into the political conspiracy angle of the scam.

Though the SIT had seized many laptops, computers and mobile phones during the investigation, the commission has a feeling that the SIT failed to either extract sufficient cyber elements or record it promptly.

It is essential to examine the veracity of recorded mobile phone calls, examine visuals shot by mobile phone cameras, verify alleged leaking of porn visuals of key accused Sarita Nair and track e-mails and messages exchanged between offices of ministers and key officials involved in the investigation, to expose the conspiracy angle, it was believed.

The commission had also collected details of independent experts in the arena of cyber forensics and also consulted with few of them, sources said.

The move is considered to be a landmark one as it is for the first time a judicial commission is trying to seek the service of impartial and eminent cyber forensics experts in the state, overriding the state machinery.

It is to be recalled that there were allegations of suppression of facts against the investigation team as the office of chief minister and other few ministers were allegedly involved in the case.

CPM state secretary Pinarayi Vijayan and former chief whip PC George had also alleged that the police deliberately neglected the cyber evidences in the case incriminating many ‘influential figures’.

There was a general feeling that the investigation failed to shed light into the array of political conspiracies took place in the cyber world. Commission believes that an independent expert would be in a better position to solve the mystery than one serving under the government.
