Leopard killed, carcass hung from tree in West Bengal

ASANSOLA leopard was brutally beaten to death and his carcass was hung from a tree by villagers in Purulia on Saturday afternoon. The extent of the barbarity against a beast could be gauged from the report that the angry villagers chopped off the dead leopard’s paws and tail. 
 
The bizarre incident took place in Dakhin Tatuara village in Kotshila police station area. Some villagers first spotted the leopard near a small rivulet. When they tried to chase it, the leopard ran into the village sparking panic in the village and subsequently into a cowshed. The villagers locked the door from outside and informed the police and the forest department. 
 
The officer-in-charge Souranshu Roy and assistant sub-inspector Si-manta Tantubai arrived from Kotshila police station. Flashing a light, they opened the door of the shed. The moment the door opened, the trapped big cat jumped out of the room and attacked the assistant sub-inspector. Several other villagers were also injured by the leopard. The ASI and two villagers Dharam Das Kumar Premchand Kumar were admitted to the Purulia Hospital.
