Hyderabad: Accidents rise in the evening
Downpour and poor visibility major cause for mishaps
Hyderabad: While traffic cops are increasingly apprehending people for dangerous driving, as per analysis of traffic accidents over the last two months, evening hours see the maximum road accidents due to rash driving. Moreover, each year accidents during the rainy season goes up by an estimated 20 per cent. As all motorists face visibility problems during the rainy season, dangerous driving, overspeeding and zigzag driving increase the chance of accidents. Close to 9,000 cases of violations relating to dangerous driving, of which 4,473 cases were of overspeeding, were recorded in the city during April.
Given the bad condition of the city roads, driving in the rain, especially during evening and night hours, can be a challenge. There are also several stretches that have been damaged due to the recent heavy showers, adding to motorists’ woes.
“There is generally an increase in the number of accidents seen during the rainy season due to increased problems of visibility, especially during the night hours. Accidents go up by 15 to 20 per cent during the monsoon months each year,” as per an analysis by the traffic police. As per Hyderabad Traffic Police figures, Fridays see the most accidents followed by Thursdays. Up to March 2015, 616 accidents were reported in the Twin Cities, of which 79 were fatal cases. In Cyberabad limits 344 accidents were reported in April 2015 alone.
