Chennai: Remember director Madhumita, who made the Parthiepan-Chaya Singh starrer Vallamai Thaarayo? After Kola Kolaya Mundhrika, she’s back with Moone Moonu Varthai (MMV), a romcom also to be released as Moodu Mukkallo Cheppalante in Telugu.

When asked what MMV is about, she says “It is a breezy ‘bromance’ revolving around the life of a young man with a quirky business idea, and what happens when he tries to execute it,” she says.

Madhumita adds that she hasn’t tried to convey any message through the film. “It is an out-and-out commercial venture with all the right ingredients aimed to be a box office success. I am quite sure that a lot of today’s youngsters can relate to the story, and will leave theatres with a smile on their faces,” she smiles.

So, what’s the best thing about the film? “I tried convincing SP Balasubrah manyam sir and Lakshmi ma’am to act together in the film. I saw their previous work Midhunam on television and was quite impressed by both. Initially, we thought they should play the hero’s parents and then we changed their role to grandparents. I literally killed the parents and made them his grandparents,” she laughs.

How does she feel being a woman surrounded by an all-male crew and technicians? “As long as you know what you’re doing, it is cool. I have not let anybody’s overconfidence or superiority overshadow my business,” she smiles.

Madhumita describes how the movie was shot simultaneously in Tamil and Telugu. “We completed both the versions in 70 days, each with a different cast! Each take had to be shot in two languages, one after the other, and I can proudly say that I completed the film within the budget. Thanks to the international exposure I got when I was studying my Master’s degree. I learnt that I shouldn’t lose my cool on sets and no matter how many things go wrong, there’s no point getting angry. Dealing with situations cleverly and getting my work done using subtlety, is my special skill,” she tells us.

When asked what’s next, she says, “I would love to direct Rajinikanth sir; but I know it is too much to ask for,” and adds, “I am working on my next film, which is an interesting trilingual.”
