Hyderabad: A Nigerian and a Mumbai resident landed were arrested three weeks after they looted Rs 18 lakh from a school teacher living in Gachibowli. The Cyberabad Cyber Crime police on Monday arrested two persons for cheating the teacher. The duo collected the amount as “charges” for a gift containing Rs 1.4 lakh GB pounds sent to her by a Facebook friend who proposed to marry her. The victim met Kelvin Wynne through FB in March 2015. He introduced himself to her as a UK-based geologist. After some months he proposed marriage. He then informed her that he has sending a parcel containing Rs 1.4 lakh GB pounds, his documents and a laptop for use when he visits India after two months.
Later, one Chris Kennedy called the woman introducing himself as manager from Skybird Express Courier Service, Mumbai.“He confirmed receipt of the parcel, but said it had been seized by customs. Two people posing as customs and RBI officials contacted the teacher and asked her to deposit '18 lakh in various bank accounts as delivery charges,” said inspector Mohammad Riyazuddin.
The pseudo officers demanded more money to deliver the gift. She grew suspicious and approached the police. The arrested Bilal Khan collected ATM cards from various persons known to him saying that he needs to get money for his business.
“He got money deposited and passed details of the accounts to the arrested Nigerian Ani John Ibuchi. He deducted a commission of 10 per cent from the withdrawn amount and handed it over to Ibuchi,” added the inspector.
