VijayawadaAndhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu’s proposed residence on the Krishna river bunds has given new hope to the owners of other illegal structures. Earlier, the owners of illegal structures, including MP Gokaraju Ganga Raju, had been issued notices for their buildings on the river bunds. The CM’s proposed new residence is also within the flood banks and the owners feel that the government may not remove their structures.

As per the River Conservancy Act, no permanent structure should be constructed within the floodbanks of a river. Several industrialists and prominent persons from Vijayawada had constructed guesthouses in the area. It is learnt that the revenue department may defend the government’s proposal saying that that the CM’s proposed residence is 500 metres away from the river Krishna.
