Belagavi: BJP national president Amit Shah will arrive in Belagavi on June 23, ahead of a series of protests BJP leaders have planned to coincide with the start of the monsoon session of the state legislature on July 29.

According to sources, Shah will land at Sambra airport in Belagavi at 12 noon on Tuesday and proceed to Nargund near Gadag to take part in the inauguration of Gangadhar Rao Deshpande Memorial Auditorium to be held the same afternoon.

He will return to Belagavi from Nargund in the evening and stay at KLE Society’s guest house. The following day, he is expected to meet several BJP leaders to discuss the series of agitations to be launched by the party during the upcoming 10-day monsoon session in Belagavi.

According to sources, the BJP leaders plan to stage a dharna in front of Suvarna Soudha to protest against the government’s failure to resolve the sugarcane crisis. The BJP also plans to take out a rally from Badalankalgi, hometown of a cane grower who recently committed suicide, to Belagavi.

Simultaneously, the party is working out strategies to launch protests both inside and outside the Soudha during the session to exert pressure on the government on resolving the prevailing cane crisis.
