Hyderabad: An under construction building of ground plus four floors collapsed at Shaikpet village falling under the GHMC jurisdiction on Monday at around 4.30 pm, leaving the watch man injured.
No case has been booked against the owner. The GHMC staff is inspecting the building permission approval. Mr Chandra Kala, Shaikpet Mandal Revenue Officer said, “The construction of the building was completed and minor works were pending. The owner Mr Balaram.L expired in January this year. His wife Ms Padma Devi stated her deceased husband had applied for building permission and it was approved by the GHMC. Ms. Padma Devi held the surrounding buildings responsible for the collapse and stated that during the construction of the surrounding buildings the owners had dug beyond 30 feet for cellar construction which weakened the building pillar and has led to the collapse. The demolition of the building is on and will be completed by early Tuesday.”
Jubilee Hills MLA, Maganti Gopinath, who visited the spot said, “Shaikpet has become a hub for illegal construction, even before the permission application reached the GHMC the building was already constructed. I have written several letters to the GHMC on illegal constructions; however no action has been taken yet.
“The MRO has no role in granting permission. However, the GHMC can only tell us whether this building is legal or an unauthorised construction,” added the Shaikpet MRO. Local people gathered in large numbers to have a look at the collapsed complex, causing disturbance in rescue operations. Officials have not yet reported loss of life.
