Kerala local body elections to be held in October
All citizens who turn 18 years on January 1, 2015 can enrol in the new voters' list
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: As a prelude to the local body elections to be held in October, the State Election Commission on Monday launched the online facility to assist citizens to enrol in the voters’ list.
State Election Commissioner K. Sashidharan Nair told reporters here that the new online facility being introduced for the first time will enable the citizens to make changes, including corrections, transpositions and name inclusion, from home.
The voters can log on to www.lsgelection.kerala.gov.in and submit the applications online and use the options for corrections.
All citizens who turn 18 years on January 1, 2015 can enrol in the new voters' list. The online facility will be available till July 15 and people can submit complaints and suggestions directly or by post to the respective electoral registration officers.
Ward delimitation procedures would be completed by July-end. New ruling fronts will take over all local body institutions on November 1. "We will publish the final voters' list by July-end.
Once the delimitation procedures are finalised the final voters' list will be reviewed again," he said. NRIs too can cast votes. "The application of NRIs will be duly processed and they can vote after producing valid documents, including passport. 50 percent of the wards will have women reservation," he added.
The webpage is available in multiple languages, including English, Malayalam, Kannada and Tamil. Users can choose the language from the home page· Citizens can avail of the facility via Akshaya Centres by paying Rs 20 as processing charge.
