Kochi: In Kerala, the monsoon and district collectors have a unique connection that school kids of many generations would know.

The students best remember civil servants for their yearly mandate on school closure when rains wreak havoc. But Kozhikode collector Prasanth Nair went one step ahead to the amusement of students.

A student in the early hours of Monday ‘inboxed’ a message on the collector's official Facebook page asking whether there was a holiday in Kozhikode owing to the previous day’s heavy downpour.

The new-gen collector took no time to reply Favad Pathoor, a student of Government Law College, saying “Nothing, Go to Your Classes” (a famous dialogue by Sudhi, a semi-literate character portrayed by Mohanlal in the hit movie Aye Auto).

Soon Mr Nair shared the incident on Facebook and the post evoked laughter and went viral evoking response from the collector's friends and followers.

Many students also wrote comments seeking the collector to declare a holiday the next day. He came back with another funny comment. “I do want to (announce a holiday). Normally we have seen the weather change sunny after the collector has declared a holiday”.

Favad was anonymous when Prasanth shared the post but later he posted a screenshot revealing the identity of the naughty student. He is an active student leader. Wayanad collector had declared a holiday.

Collector Kozhikode is one of the most popular pages of its kind on Facebook with more than 40,000 likes.
