Rains hit Godavari pushkar ghat work in Nizamabad

Nizamabad: Work on the Godavari pushkar ghats were hampered in Nizamabad district for the last couple of days. Following the downpour, the officials are unable to continue the work on the banks of river Godavari. In view of fast approaching of Godavari pushkaralu, the officials have intensified works recently.
In Nizamabad district, the officials have identified Pushkar ghats at Kandakurthi, Tadbiloli in Renjal mandal, Kosli, Binola, Tungini in Navipet mandal, Ummeda in Nandipet mandal, Pochampad, Savel in Balkonda mandal, Tadpakal, Domchanda, and Gummerial in Morthad mandal. The officials proposed to set up 11 Pushkar ghats with 14 bathing points.
It is expected that around 37 lakh devotees will take a holy dip during the Godavari Pushkaralu in Nizamabad district. The state government has sanctioned Rs 136 crore for various works, which are in progress.
Speaking to this newspaper, Roads and Buildings superintending engineer S. Madhusudan Reddy said that roads leading to Pushkar ghats are being improved in the district. Giving top priority for pushkaralu works, we have shifted men and machinery, he added.
Meanwhile, rains adversely affected the Pushkar ghats and road works in the district. Contractors are unable to continue the BT road work due to rains. “We will complete the work by July 14 for the convenience of Godavari pushkaralu,” a contractor said. Meanwhile, major road work connecting Pushkar ghats were completed in the district.
Godavari valley circle commissioner Madhusudan Rao, RWS chief engineer Nanda Kumar inspected Godavari pushkaralu work in on Monday. They directed the district officials to complete the work with quality as per agreement.
