Coimbatore: The state-owned Aavin’s packaged milk supplied on Tuesday was found curdled and reeked of bad odour, complained Aavin parlour operators across Coimbatore city.
Power outage in Coimbatore led to curdling about 5,000 litres of milk, admitted Aavin officials. “On Tuesday, there were long hours of power outages and due to this about 5,000 litres of milk went sour due to non availability of proper refrigeration. The issues has been rectified,” said Aavin general manager Ravikumar.
“On a daily basis, the Aavin dairy produces about three lakh litres of milk and there have been no problems. But on Tuesday, the milk was spoilt due to lack of refrigeration,” he explained.
However, angry retailers lay siege to the milk company at RS Puram demanding replacement of the curdled milk packets. The packet milk distributedat Kavundampalay- am, Gounder Mills and Vellakinar were spoilt and were smelling bad, the retailers said. Several customers had also lodged complained at the milk company in Pachapalayam about the spoilt milk.
