Experts to check quality on works
JNTU-K team to inspect work at ghats for mega fete
Rajahmundry: An expert committee from JNTU-K has given a clean chit on quality of 170 works it has inspected so far in Godavari districts. Five teams of experts with each team comprising three members, mainly from civil engineering department of the university led by the head of the department Prof. V. Srinivasulu, are carrying out quality checks on works executed by the municipal corporation, roads and buildings and panchayat raj for the forthcoming Godavari Pushkaralu.
The teams armed with the requisite apparatus are lifting the samples of material to test their quality in the labs located in the university itself. They are examining the concrete mix, core of the newly laid road with Diamond Cutter and also cubes cast with date, in order to test them at the labs for quality of material used and the strength of the structure and proportion of combination of materials used.
The experts maintain that except for minor deviations in road construction initially, taken up by the municipal corporation, the works are being carried out ensuring quality.
They said that based on the suggestion of the expert committee, the minor deviations were rectified in laying the road.
Experts are going to concentrate on inspection of bathing ghats being taken up by the irrigation authorities. They are going to carry out Rebound Hammer test to find out the strength of the structures. They will hit the part of the structure which they intend to check for strength and the display on the devi-se shows the grades.
As per standard parameters, when structure which is in slope is hit with the hammer, it should show the grade M-10. This grade indicates the structure is alright. Similarly, for steps and side walls, grade M-15 is ideal. In case of structures of houses, the Rebound Hammer test should show the grade of M-30 indicating its strength and stability. The experts will also be lifting the core of the constructed material at the ghats and testing it with Universal Testing Machine.
The machine will break the core into tiny parts as it helps the experts assess the quality of materials used for construction of that structure. Experts’ team head and Prof. V. Srinivasulu said, “We are yet to take up inspection of works being taken up by the irrigation and endowments for quality. Whatever the work we had inspected so far executed by RMC, R and B and panchayat raj department, they were executed by maintaining the requisite standards.”
