Independent candidates cry foul, protest
Protestors alleged that officers on polling duty and the EC were benefitting AIADMK
Chennai: Ten independent candidates of R.K. Nagar constituency protested against the returning officer and the local polling officials of the constituency alleging partiality towards the ruling AIADMK.The demonstrators held the protest near the corporation zonal office at Tondiarpet. They alleged that the officers on polling duty and the Election Commission were functioning like a political party wing benefiting the ruling AIADMK.
“As our complaints to the CEO and the local returning officer proved futile, we were forced to join the protest,” said independents R. Jeyakumar and P. Ponraj. Another independent candidate Traffic Ramasamy who had also staged protests in R.K. Nagar on Wednesday lodged a complaint against city police commissioner and deputy commissioner for providing additional security for Chief Minister Jayalalithaa during her campaign on Monday. Police should behave as neutrals inside the constituency where model code is in place , said Ramasamy.
