Rs 10 crore to renovate Kaloor market
New bridge at Giri Nagar, farm tourism project at Mundamveli planned
Kochi: The Greater Cochin Development Authority, which has successfully undertaken a couple of infra projects within a short span of time, is now set to take up the construction of a new bridge at Giri Nagar, renovation of Kaloor market, farm tourism project at Mundamveli and completion of Thevara - Thykoodam bund road.
The ongoing construction of the bridge connecting Kaloor to Manapattiparambu will be completed in two months. The bridge, being built using innovative Korean technology, will provide a new entry to the Kaloor market.
“The renovation works of Kaloor market at an estimated cost of Rs 10 crore will begin once the bridge is completed. The plan is to upgrade the market to a 50,000-square-feet modern shopping centre with separate air-conditioned sections for vegetables, fish, meat and other goods. Traders from the existing private market will be shifted to the new facility. The total project cost will be equally shared by the government and the authority,” said GCDA chairman N. Venugopal.
The state government has given administrative sanction for the Rs. 6-crore farm tourism project at Mundamveli and the Rs. 1.300-crore bridge at Giri Nagar. Mr Benny Behanan MLA has given Rs. 1 crore from his asset funds for the bridge. As part of the farm tourism project, Mundamveli will be converted to an eco- tourism centre with facilities like walkway, fishing areas, cage fishing, children’s playground, food court and amphitheatre.
“Acquisition of remaining plots for the next phase of Thevara- Thykoodam bund road is on and the land owners have submitted consent letters. Once the acquisition is completed, the next phase of road up to Champakkara will be developed,” added Mr Venugopal.
