Student informers for Excise
The SEC was formed during the State School Kalolsavam this year as volunteers
KOZHIKODE: The Student Excise Cadets (SEC), an initiative of Kozhikode district excise department, will soon do the work of spies to trace out the students who use drugs.
It was following the success of Students Police Cadet that the excise department came with the idea of SEC in the wake of increasing use of narcotics products by school students, especially girls.
The SEC was formed during the State School Kalolsavam this year as volunteers, but now its members will campaign against the narcotics products.
Kozhikode Excise Inspector M.K. Gireesh said, “it is difficult to trace the use of drugs among students, especially girls. Hence a wing of the students could help identify such users. The SEC will spy for our department directly and we will conduct meetings with the SEC students who will submit reports on the status check of their respective schools,” he explained.
“School students have gone hi-tech and tricky to use narcotic products with the mini pipe-size hookah to aluminium tube and mini roller machines to wrap cigars, all imported online,” he said.
The SEC has 2,500 students now and from this academic year it will have anti- narcotics clubs in all the government and aided schools in the state.
