Hyderabad/Anantapur: The 130 pilgrims from Anantapur district who went for Chardham Yatra are safe at Badrinath in Uttarakhand, Kambhampati Ramamohana Rao, special representative of the state, said in New Delhi on Friday.
Mr Rao said, “We spoke to officials. The pilgrims are stranded as roads are blocked. We expect the roads to be cleared on Saturday. Officials provided food to the pilgrims.” Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu assured the pilgrims that the government would extend all assistance for their safe return.
Tour organiser K. Satyanarayana told DC that all pilgrims from AP were safe and were housed at lodges in Badrinath. About 130 pilgrims from Hindupur, Kadiri, Madakasira and Anantapur, Rayachoti and Pavagada left in four tourist buses a week ago.
Mr Satyanaryana said, “We reached Badrinath with police help and none of us face any difficulty. The news aired on TV channels that we are stranded is false.” He said that road was damaged at the 101 km milestone between Badrinath-Haridwar that slowed down traffic for about 296 km but the group reached Badrinath safely.
